    Hi Eagle,

    Unions. Your make the point that 'they set the standard to the point the conditions they forget for are now taken for granted and they in fact are not as influential as you claim'.

    I agree they assisted members make demonstrable changes in living standards in the past. There is a balance, however. Some (the militant ones) were responsible for the economic destruction of industries in the countries they operated. Take the UK in the 70's - they were out of control there. Scotland used to have a thriving ship building industry - one of the best in the world. Now they have nothing - and the unions have a good deal to answer for that. One could say the same thing about Australia - which is what Hawke recognised (for example) with the pilots strike in the 90's. He realised the pilots union was abusing their monopoly position and dealt with them.

    Unions are like Employers. Some are good and do wonderful things for their members and society. Some are crooks.
