I learnt a new term on the weekend while reading the WSJ. 'Painting the tape' is where various traders create a bit of a buzz around a stock by trading it amongst themselves creating a false impression of volume and price.
There seem to be a lot of shares on asx which have enjoyed a period of popularity and now are down and held by people who got sucked in. I wonder if there is an element of painting the tape in this. And if hotcopper could unwittingly be used in it?
But must say that regarding wrm I think it's former highs were due to high gold price and low aud/usd. I think it's quite an exciting stock. Obviously with price in the doldrums there is no painting the tape here. (Therefore a good time to buy?).
Why do I have this nagging feeling this post will be moderated?
Can but wait and see.
