Morning Star Gold (ASX: MCO) - Australia's newest gold producer with a high grade & high operating margin focus has 200km2 of prime Lachlan Fold Belt tenements 120kms east of Australia's 2nd largest city Melbourne.
MCO's mining & exploration titles host multiple high grade gold production ore bodies mined only to shallow depths. Production in the Woods Point - Walhalla Goldfield (Australia's 3rd largest hardrock field by production) is known as 150T-200T (6-7Mozs Au) with grades of 12g/t - 40g/t. Gold is typically hosted in quartz reefs inside fractured mafic & gabbroic 'dyke' intrusions.
MCO has re-commenced gold production at its 100% owned 'Morning Star Goldmine' and re-accessed underground workings to 310 metres (10 Levels). MCO has built state of the art onsite haulage and gold processing facilities in 2011.
In the 1940's Morning Star was Australia's premier gold mine run by Western Mining (WMC). Production was 883,000ozs at 26g/t to 1962. Much of this was by WMC (1934-1959). 2011 is 150 years since the first gold discoveries occured at Woods Point in Victoria so its fitting that production should return on the sesquicentenary of gold being found in the area.
