I get what u r doing and like it. That corner still scares me and I would give it a wack to set my mind at ease. If the 'post' was vertical (or nearly so) AND the hole went all the way through (so the post went all the way through) then the load would be essentially transferred vertically downwards onto the 'floor'- and not into the base - sorta.
Perhaps I am panicking cos that top part is not as heavy as I imagine. If I am then ignore my words.
(I do note that in a previous photo it was about the same size as the fridge - lol)
