And to Petergm, you are of course correct, but that's the risk a trader takes.
The idea is: They buy when the price is low. The price rises. Other "investors" buy because they don't want to miss out on the rise. The traders sell. The price falls. The "investors" sell because they don't want to lose too much money (they get scared). The trader buys again etc etc until they move onto another stock.
