3D printing could well dwarf zircon tile printing. The applications are far greater, particularly after you see these videos. (There are literally hundreds on Youtube). General Motor made an engine block from a 3D printer using TiO2 sand earlier this year.  I think you could see some areas of manufacturing switch from the chinese back to western countries, if it takes off.

As for the second part of your post.
The market will turn, but I think slowly and take a good couple of years. The new Rio mine in South Africa could damage new greenfield projects, but on the flipside Iluka made an announcement over the weekend that they will be shutting their U.S. operations in 2015, which is interesting.

"how to get into that group"
Difficult, particuarly when there are no real supply problems.
