Actually if you want to be one of the PIGS, then do the following:

1. Increase debt to a level where the country becomes dependent on the IMF to be saved.
2. Increase the public service to an unservicable level - and give them ridiculous entitlements like 13 monthly payments every 12 months.
3. Don't have sufficient immigration to match your aging population
4. Don't export enough goods to match imports.
5. Discourage business.

THEN watch the fun start.

And BTW - I think both Labor and Liberal may be a 'fail' on #3
