We keep seeing the same connections between various brain disease/injuries and neurological conditions, namely neuro-inflammation. Schizophrenia is yet another example where 'inflammatory processes' are implicated.

The connection between TBI and Alzheimer's Disease is well documented. A number of studies are turning the amyloid hypotheses on its head. Rather than neuro-inflammation being a response to the deposition of amyloid plaques, new data from preclinical and clinical studies suggest that immune system mediated actions contribute to and drive AD pathogenesis. In other words inflammation is a key driver of AD and of course non-Alzheimer's dementia.

One interesting study involved 7000 US navy and marine veterans from the second world war. Of course the US military is also interested in the study of concussion. Success in the INTREDID-2566 clinical trial - now only a stones throw away - should ignite interest in AD circles as well as drive forward the clinical trial of Trofinetide in concussion. The players involved are heavy hitters including of course the NFL.
