"Do unto others as you would have them do unto you" was established long ago."

This principle is not as sound as it seems at first sight.
Peter Singer (I think) was discussing this on the ABC show Big Ideas.

    What is wrong with it?
It is rather obvious, once we think about it a bit.

The Others may not like what you doing to them, even if you mean well.

Taliban in Afganistan has tried it, rest of the word was just dumbfounded.

Missionaries with best intentions ruined societies that have existed for milenia - in some cases.

The American Dream exported to the rest of the world is met with disdain everywhere else - just about.

Someone who enjoys a beer does not appreciate being offered water by an abstinent.

Vegetarian will be ofended if you I offer him a rare cooked steak just the way I like it.

I am sure I would not enjoy what homosequal male would like to do to me.

    List goes on.

Do onto others what they would like done to them seem to make much better sense.
And if you think it would not be good for them then just do nothing.
