    Most historical documents were written taking into account the context and reality of the time they were written.

    It is never claimed that the Bible is the word of God.

    It is when you attempt to take a section of a text written for a context that existed some thousands of years ago, and apply it to reality that exists today where you start to have real problems...

    It makes for some interesting diversions and of course does help to understand why some folks seem locked in a never ending loop, but in the case of the Bible, since it is never claimed to be the direct and literal word of God, (almost never I guess would be more exact for some obsessives) then really it all comes down to interpretation and relation of significant points to whatever current context you and your community is in...

    When you have a historical text that IS claimed to be the direct and literal word of God, then you really start to have major problems as we see with Islam...
