Recyug,
That is an interesting comment because the no vote camp are also only trying to make money, but see no likelihood of this under a majority share holder. I bought looking for a bounce back to leveraged gold price increase if the offer was rejected or a superior offer. I believe without the current offer, I would have made a lot of money, and you would have recovered your 20% at least. You must believe this also, or else you would have sold out before this offer came to the table.
The current offer has seen the price drop because there are more sellers than buyers, is a yes vote going to change this? The price is down 60% off it's highs, despite moving to profitable production, what is stopping it falling further if the market does not like this.
Voting is not the goal in itself, but for a majority holder it is a very powerful tool, which is why there are regulations about reporting and declaring interest. Shandong could influence the company to benefit their wider interests in the gold industry, which may benefit them more than dividends. This is so important, if they were buying on market they would need to report every 1% increase and declare a takeover interest.
It is interesting there have been no comments from institutional holders with the top 5 holding 37%. Their vote will be key to this so surely they were approached by management or Shandong, yet this was not mentioned in the offer? Would they have to disclose if their vote was influenced in any way by other deals they might have set up to sell? I don't see any of them having a buy recommendation suggesting their clients can make money on FML through this deal do they?
