Daigou
Daigou (Chinese: 代购 dàigòu also 海外代购 hǎiwài dàigòu)[1] is a channel of commerce in which a Chinese person overseas purchases commodity, includes luxury goods and groceries, for a customer in mainland China.[2] The phrase means "buying on behalf of".[3]Daigou sales total $15 billion annually.[4]Daigou purchases are often from luxury brand boutiques in major fashion cities like Paris, London, New York City, Hong Kong, Tokyo and Seoul.[5] Some daigou use Weiboand WeChat to communicate with their clients.[5] The large demand for the daigouservice is due to concern over unsafe products, especially food safety problems, [6]and China's high import tariffs on luxury goods.[5] Some daigou service providers intentionally sell counterfeit made in Chinaproducts that have been altered to appear purchased abroad.[7] A 2015 survey of Chinese online luxury shoppers found that 35% have used daigou to purchase luxury goods online, while only 7% used the brand's website.[8]
