I'm a new IPR holder, primarily because of Nearmap. The Nearmap team have been together for many years and know what they're doing, IMHO. Having only started looking at the company in 2009 the IP assertion business is of no interest to me and clearly has no future so I'm glad they're ditching it.
My main concerns are how committed the Nearmap team are and the cashflow situation.
Stuart Nixon, Guy Perkins and Simon Cope have worked together for many years and successfully sold their previous companies to Leica so IMO as long as they're still in charge its in good hands.
Cashflow should be ok as long as they can get some sales happening in the next few months. I've taken a punt on the belief that they will. They recently made some changes to the Govt licensing which look positive to me: http://forum.nearmap.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=271
