if you look at the history of the labour movement and the labor party you will find that on many occasions they fight each other to the point of making them unelectable.

usually what happens is the left unios break from the right unions, the right unions back the labor party (government or opposition irt doesn't matter to them) and the left take both of them on. if that brings down a government, it doewsn't matter becasue they hate the right of labor running things
