I have three kids- 9, 6 and 4 and I have never hit them. They are all well behaved (well most of the time) but like all kids require discipline. Some people think discipline is just pain, but it can be saying no, making kids experience consequences of actions, time outs, positive rewards etc.
And congratulations on the prizes - my daughter also had her presentation today and was top in maths.
