Tony Abbott's appalling display Wednesday night on the 7:30 Report with Leigh Sales must rank as one of the worst ever for an Australian political leader.

"... Have you actually read BHP's statements?" Sales asked.
Mr Abbott replied: "No, but I've also got again the statement of [BHP chairman] Jacques Nasser, who says, 'While we're still evaluating the impact of the carbon tax, but it just makes it more difficult'." ..."

    But there's more!

"Opposition Leader Tony Abbott now says he did read the BHP Billiton briefing document at the centre of his fiery exchanges with 7.30 host Leigh Sales. ..."

If Abbott hasn't lied and his story hasn't really changed perhaps it's just that he doesn't have the intellect to understand what what the report said.

That would also explain his problems with understanding melting ice caps and the need to urgently address anthropogenic carbon emissions. It might also explain why his minders had to go into damage control over his alarming remarks about funding levels for public education. It might shed light on his $78b funding black hole and quite a few other things as well ....
