I'm starting to think Abbott's reference to avoiding being jet lagged was in fact the truth.
Secondly it makes complete sense when put in the context that he was to visit Afghanistan on his return flight... but clearly he couldn't say that's why he will be dropping in on his way home. Not only that, ABC reported that early last month Abbott wanted to spend days with the troops and go out into a battlefield, of which he was declined ... but again would make more sense why the visit would be best conducted on the trip home.
I even wonder if Gillard had access to the reasoning Abbott had given for organising a visit on his return and thus by jumping the gun on him with a first to visit and then politicising his refusal to travel with her she put him in the predicament he found himself.
And for those who think they are not capable of setting up such a sting ... ask yourself why she even bothered to mention it.
