"tried to make LNP members vote for things they don't believe in"

Members don't have the privilege of voting for things they believe in. They should be voting for whatever their constituency tells them to. This is the incessant stumbling block for what's become a very stretched and disjointed Right Wing of politics. If they allow the Party room to determine policy exclusive of the wishes of the constituency, they will get mauled at the next election, then wonder what went wrong.

Consensus wins elections, but at the moment the far Right would seem to prefer to drag the debate to the Right and lose badly, than to hold the debate closer to the centre and score a partially hollow victory. Go figure
