Christian Porter imo comes across as smart and decent. Unfortunately the smart and decent ones rarely get the opportunity to take the top job. They need to be smooth, cunning and feral political animals like the three I mentioned in an earlier post. Not an easy job to fill.
From Labor, Kim Beazley was smart and decent but was rolled. Liberal Peter Costello had much going for him but apparently did not have the feral needed to nudge a truly political animal in John Howard when JH ought to have handed over the baton to him.
