Well the political game just hasn't worked out for Abbott.

People keep harking back to his attitude in opposition using that as an excuse for Shorten's attitude. The massive difference was that the ALP had the numbers in the Senate so they could do whatever they liked no matter what Abbott said or did . Abbott is in a completely different circumstance.

The facts are that anything that could make a significant difference to the bottom line has no hope of passing ,compromise doesn't work ,intellectual argument of the issues is pointless . What does one do ? Do you give up and not do anything pressing on to the next election ,or do you dig your heels in and trigger a major debate ,with likely deleterious outcomes for yourself . Because it doesn't matter how convincing your arguments are the way politics is played today the outcome is predetermined . If people don't want to hear your message it matters not if the sky is falling in around them they just go on believing what they believe.

So if Abbott just gives up where do the haters go then? Perhaps a new hate campaign because he hasn't delivered on reasons as to why they can keep hating him.

If I was him I'd just give up . This country is living in a dreamworld if it thinks that we can go on with an increasing expenditure and diminishing income ,any intellect with a handle on the economy knows that . The reckoning day is headed here fast.

The stupidity of people who think Turnbull would have any hope of delaying the inevitable were he leader is breathtaking .

What on earth anyone thinks the Alp could do of any consequence other than a deleterious one is also a head scratcher .

Some of the trolls here should read the Murray report , have a close look at what Treasury officials ,past and present ,have said publicly and otherwise . Don Argus has written some revealing articles recently. The free lunch is over in this country.

You make it sound like a bed of roses.
Gillard payed the ultimate political price for having to deal with the greens AFTER the election to form an effective government.
Abbott,Pyne and co kicked them in the head at every opportunity for doing so.
Hard to feel sorry for Abbott now that his turn has come around.
Abbott could give a bit of ground to the greens...maybe a Carbon Tax.
