Etherazer, The Border Mail built its reputation on servicing the greater Albury-Wodonga District and although staff levels have been reduced and the paper much thinner than in the past, it is still doing that.

Regional Australians are hopeful that governments will listen to their pleas to intervene to stop the insidious corruption of regional papers and their replacement as just reprints of metropolitan ones. Thus far, there is NO indication from Tony Abbott that he is even listening to anyone other than Murdoch and Stokes though.

Now as for the gutter journalism that defines Murdoch's mouthpieces, those publications are options for national daily news but most locals still prefer to read it in The Border Mail. Personally and after thorough research, I've taken out a paid subscription to The Age online.
