Yes the states get the GST and yes they raise their own taxes

But the feberal government taxes us to

the money they get is not the states money or the feds money it is our money

money that should be put back were it is needed.

Health in particular hospitals though is not just a case of throwing more money at to fix the problem

Ex-Govt official says health system needs fixing

A former high-ranking federal government official has criticised how the health system is run in Australia.

John Menadue, a former head of the Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet, has addressed the Combined Pensioners and Superannuants annual conference in Sydney about health care reform in Australia.

He told the delegates that governments spend money to fix short-term problems rather than reforming the system.

"My own view is that governments, particularly in this state (NSW), they throw money at health to overcome a public relations problem rather than address the systemic problems in the system, introducing reform, getting more efficiency into the system," he said.

Mr Menadue says issues such as demarcation, restrictive work practices, quality and safety of care, and division between state and federal governments needs to be fixed.

"You don't need so much more money you need to re-engineer the system," he said

"There are system design problems in health that need addressing.

"More and more money is out of the question, but more obviously it's not solving the problem."
