In the event that the Coalition makes Tony Abbott PM after winning the next election, those dependent on our export of mining products to China will need all the luck they can find.
After receiving a warm & respectful welcome in China; Abbott's rabid dog diplomacy has been unleashed on Chinese home soil. The extracts below are from John Garnaut's report in today's Age online:
"... "It would rarely be in Australia's interests to allow a foreign government or its agencies to control an Australian business, ..."
"... "No big country is entitled to get its way with smaller countries just because it cam, ..."
"... Hugh White, professor of strategic studies at the Australian National University, said Mr Abbott believed that former prime minister John Howard's approach to managing China would work for an Abbott government.
"... ''The problem is the Howard approach worked 15 years ago, but today's China is a very different country,'' he said. ''It's much stronger, much more important to Australia, and its relationship to America is much more contested.'' ..."
"... Trade Minister Craig Emerson said last night that Mr Abbott's comments were ''patronising and offensive''.
''And his policies would make Australia a high sovereign risk country in China's eyes.'' ..."
