My understanding is that Abbott was born in England to an Australian mother and an English father. His father was an orthodontist, so no problems with income. His mother was a stay at home mum.
He never attended a public school, attending St. Aloysius' College at Milson's Point in his primary school years, followed by St. Ignatius College, Riverview the most elite Catholic boys' school, in Sydney, run by the Jesuit Order.
He attended St. John's College at Sydney University studying Economics/Law. He must have also excelled in sport as he won a highly esteemed Rhodes Scholarship and went on to attend Queens College,Oxford University studying a Master of Arts, conferred in 1989, in Philosophy, Politics and Economics. This was followed by a stint training for the priesthood at the now defunct St. Patrick's Seminary, Manly, however he never finished and went from there to journalism followed by a transfer to Canberra as Press Secretary for the then Liberal leader, John Hewson.
Another well known recipient of a Rhodes Scholarship was Bob Hawke.
Is this where the PTB get a hold over such recipients?
