Philip Coorie's take on today's coverage of Tony Abbott the Family Man by News Ltd media makes for interesting reading. What's even more interesting is the results of the online poll accompanying his article [below]:

"Abbott campaign takes spousal support to a new level"

"... And as every election nears, we are treated to ubiquitous Women's Weekly and 60 Minutes profiles of the politician at home.

But today's carpet bombing of the public by News Ltd tabloids and Channel Nine about what a gentle and sensitive soul the Opposition Leader really is takes things to a new level, at least in contemporary Australian politics.

Moreover, it is a clear admission, albeit indirect, that the perception that female voters have a problem with Mr Abbott is a stark reality.

There is no other reason why the tightly controlled media management that surrounds the Abbott camp would permit such an exercise. ..."

The current results for that online poll [11674 people]; "Is there any substance to the notion that Tony Abbott struggles to appeal to female voters?":

Yes, you can see it in the polls [70%]

Only because Labor keep making it an issue [14%]

    No, I think it's a beatup [16%]

Even this poll, appearing below all that Tony Abbott the wonderful family man stuff shows 70% of people believe Abbott struggles to appeal to female voters. Now why would that be the case?
