This episode has reminded us how many problems plagued the Abbott government and revealed the extent of concern within the ranks.

The problems stretched from policy (most notably the 2014 Budget), and personnel (anger over Peta Credlin's power and the nearly all-male Cabinet), to the whacky captain's calls like giving Prince Philip a Knighthood.

Turnbull played his hand well, biding his time, holding off during the "empty chair" spill, waiting for the right time to strike, and then riding a wave of popular public support when he initially took over.

But such transactions are never without cost. The seeds were planted in the Abbott era for more internal dysfunction to come.

so many different opinions and every single one from the Liberal Party MPs plus a couple of Dept Heads.

the narrative is not obscure yet its the Liberal Party telling its own story.

    an apt historical record.
