It has no relevance here in Australia particularly in regard to fracking or the chemicals used.
It has no relevance whatsoever in regards to MEL.
Unlike Qld there are no aquifier issues with MEL in the Northern Rivers.
The opposition comes from ignorant, Luddite, Nimbin/Lismore opposed-to-all development hippie-environmentalists and politically motivated Greens & academics associated with Southern Cross University.

In the NSW State election the National Party members for Ballina and Clarence Valley were re-elected with thumping increased (60%+) majorities. Both are quoted as being pro-MEL.

The popular 2-term independent member for Tamworth, Peter Draper, was swept aside by the National Party.

His predecessor, independent Fed MP, Tony Windsor, is looking vulnerable now. You can bet which way he will jump when the chips are down (rumour has it that he rents his house out to a coal-mining company).

ESG is in that electorate.

ESG chairman, John Anderson, was deputy prime minister in the Howard govt. ESG has the new govts support.

The gas industry generally has federal labor support and environmental approval.

Why? It all comes down to jobs and revenue from taxes and royalties.

Much of the problem stems from state govts being completely unprepared for a new industry (CSG)so unsupervized practices were condoned but now are not.

This area has one of the highest unemployment rates in the whole country.

Gas is gonna happen.
