Well, just when I thought this bloke couldn't say anything more stupid than he already has, he comes out with the "It's ok to give kids a smack"........and then as an afterthought, realises he'd better add, "as long as it doesn't hurt."
Does this "leader" not realise how words like that are perceived by those who literally bash their, or their partner's children.
Can someone from the LNP please suggest to this PM that he employs a media spokesman that accompanies him everywhere he goes, and speaks for him, and tells him when it's best not to open his unfortunate mouth.
Fair dinkum, what an idiotic statement from a nation's "leader". Simply and utterly disgraceful and irresponsible beyond belief.
Yeah Tony, we know there's probably a few votes in it, because many people like to hear that justification of their inability to raise wonderful children without resorting to physical pain as a behavioural deterrent, and then resorting to even more because of the consequences of their actions as the child's behaviour spirals out of control unless threatened by physical abuse.
One shudders to think how many kids copped a good belting last night as the perpetrators whacked away with a convenient interpretation of Tony's unbelievably stupid words as their justification.
Tony, by the way old fella, if smacking isn't meant to hurt, then what is the point of it? Are we about to see the invention of the "air smack"? Something to rival "Buyback the boats"??
Good grief. Someone help him.
