You're quoting gross debt instead of net debt; in any case what really matters is that our public debt is about ~25% of GDP when other developed nations have debts beyond 150% of GDP [Japans's is over 200% and Abe is spending like there's no tomorrow!].

The Govt. has a strategy to return the budget to surplus that only further falling tax revenues and Tony Abbott's unfunded commitments could exacerbate.

As regards the delivery of services to asylum seekers as against aged pensioners; the story you provided is indeed disappointing, it shouldn't happen!

But to be fair, you should have acknowledged the inhumane conditions that we are making asylum seekers travelling to Australia by boat suffer; including deaths at sea under both Labor and the Coalition.

Just for once our pollies should stop the political point-scoring and sort the asylum seeker crisis out. Until they do everyone of them deserves their well-earned reputations as sewer rats.
