Parts of southern Western Australia have capped off their September with rainfall totals not seen in over 100 years.
Pingelly in the Great Southern received 104mm this month making it the highest September rainfall in 108 years. Likewise, Hyden had 68.3mm, its highest September rainfall total since 1929.
About the capital, Perth airport received 169.6mm in the rain gauge, the highest they've seen since 1944. Further east, Wiluna in the Goldfields has seen 54.3mm fall into the rain gauge, their highest September total in 108 years.
A series of cold fronts battered the south of WA this past month, leading to the above average rainfall and records being broken. While daily totals were not excessive, it was the consistency of rain that counted towards the records being broken. Perth airport had 20 rain days, Pingelly 21 and Hyden 18.
After the passing of the last front of the month this morning, skies should clear in southern parts of the state as a high pressure system moves over the region. However, another weak front may clip the south late on Friday bringing a few light showers.
