I think it comes down to positive examples.

Most of us think our kids naturally have good thoughts.

Kids are born with empty heads and it takes positive words and examples to fill them.

Just assuming they will have our outward attitudes is stupid, especially if we snipe at others. Kids read us very well and pick up on the inner words.

I know myself I have heard my semi adult kids say unacceptable things and haven't challenged them. Shame on me.
