Just missed it but came across this in the Age today, thought it may be of interest:

Mr Brumby will say that brown coal will remain a large part of Victoria's energy sector but the onus was on the state to develop cleaner ways to use this polluting coal.

The State Government was investing heavily in clean coal technology, and promoting alternative energy sources.

"Ultimately, it is in Victoria's economic and environmental interest to not just diversify the energy sources of our power grid through renewable energy, but also to make our brown coal cleaner."

Mr Brumby will claim that Victoria will be a national leader in renewable energy in five years' time; it will have the largest solar power plant in the southern hemisphere, and it will be a state leader in environmental and water saving technology.
