Absolutely, this is an absolute beloved sector, and projects like this don't even usually need to be economically viable to go ahead, because there are sometimes sufficient incentives to push them through even if they run at a loss - producing usable renewable energy by reducing waste is a very popular pursuit, regardless of economics.
It's very much in competition with all forms of energy, not just renewables like solar and wind, but of course, nuclear, coal, etc. Of course it can never become as large as coal or nuclear etc, because the maximum size depends on the amount of available waste, so whether to balance of demand is met through other renewables, fossil fuels, nuclear or something else, any profitable energy production has a potential place, and if it also helps deal with waste management it has a particularly special place.
In our case the modelling says it'll be cashflow positive, but a lot of the market, you apparently being a good example of an individual member of that part of it, will not believe it until you see proof. Once it's running and we have that proof, we'll see a flood of investors come in, which is there the payday current holders like myself are waiting for will really start.
I totally understand your scepticism, there are plenty of companies which make lofty promises only to later disappoint when the pudding they serve up fails to contain any proof or they don't ever serve up anything at all, but while I also share your lack of trust, the fact that this company is not bothering with showy attempts to convince the market and is instead just working on making it happen, says plenty to me, along with a funding strategy which only makes sense if they themselves believe their story, so I'm in early to reap the big rewards.
