the tampa saga was more than a single event.
It involved asylum seeker transfers but it also included the enactment of legislation and also related to the election speech by Howard in November 2001 where he stated
'we will determine who enters this country........"
So its not that black and white.
It is true the towers came down after the asylum seekers were taken off the boats,but that is not the full extent of the 'Tampa issue". Many believe the worst parts followed which is what Gillard is talking about.The demonizing of boat people to win votes and Howard clearly did that right up to the election in November 2001.
