Seems like just another example of the ABC wanting to create awareness on a "perceived issue".
That issue being Indigenous deaths in custody. Since the 1991 Royal Commission, more than 470 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people have died in custody in Australia.
Even if they have no evidence, it's basically an opportunity for the family to tell their story. It's another case of, it's fantastic that this family can have a platform to explore their story, however why is it at the taxpayers expense.
Investigative journalism is hardly a thing anymore. Opinion & awareness pieces are usually the go-to, which is why you're seeing more defamation claims against the ABC.
