Big drop in pesticide use

Farm chemical company NuFarm says sales of the common weed killer glyphosate are dramatically down in Australia and United States.

It's blaming later than usual rain, and the fact farmers bought a lot of stock last year, fearing a shortage was on the way.

General Manager of NuFarm Australia, Lachlan McKinnon, says the fall in sales is only a "small blip".

"Most of rural Australia would say we are in pretty good shape for a good winter cropping season. Most areas now have received good rain," he says.

"We expect our business to be strong and robust from this point in."
