If you genuinely believe the spending is on rubbish then I understand your opposition to the tax. That's fine. I guess the argument must now be whether we think its rubbish or not.
I just don't think it is on rubbish. Some might prove to be, that's inevitable, but I think overall the stimulus program has been successful. And as far as I can tell the mining tax will help repay much of the stimulus program. Therefore if the stimulus program is not rubbish then the mining tax is not being spent on rubbish.
Maybe we need a compromise here? How would you feel with removing the 40% rebate on loss making exploration, but increasing the threshold to when the tax kicks in, like to 10% instead of 6%? I dunno, i kind of like the sound of that.
