Phil Hughes was in an induced coma and undergoing surgery in a Sydney hospital tonight after collapsing at the wicket having been struck in the head by a bouncer in the West End Redbacks' Bupa Sheffield Shield match at the SCG.
"He is in a critical condition and undergoing surgery," said hospital spokesman David Faktor. "He underwent a set of scans to assess the injury."

Hughes was struck as he turned his head midway through the shot to a short-pitched delivery from young NSW quick Sean Abbott.
The South Australian Cricket Association said family members and SACA General Manager High Performance, Tim Nielsen, were with Hughes at St Vincent's Hospital in Darlinghurst, along with NSW Blues Doctor John Orchard, who is also Cricket Australia's Chief Medical Officer. Hughes's mother and sister were in the stands at the game.
Australia captain and close mate Michael Clarke soon joined Hughes's family and Nielsen at the hospital.
Nielsen made a short statement at the hospital: "As you're aware Phil Hughes was injured today and he's undergoing surgery. The outcome of that surgery is unlikely to be known for 24-48 hours, we ask you to respect the privacy of his family and friends."
