The ABC has an independent board as a private company does, yet, it is funded by the taxpayer who have zero say in how it functions. As a biased left wing organisation it isn't representative of all Australians.
Best outcome is to privatise it and open its infrastructure up for other competing media organisations to access it - same as the Govt did with Telstra. If it is so wonderful let it prove its worth.
