Why don't you go to their site and read their charter? The ABC is not there to serve your single needs but as many Australians as possible, because it's paid for by all Australians. Commercial channels are the absolute pits, even when they do put on a reasonable show on. The point of SBS and ABC is to allow folk to get out of that disgusting pit of rubbish and be confronted (even if only a little) by the truth. It's been kicked left right and centre by every government in this country for the exact same reason: their quality at investigative journalism, which becomes more and more difficult every day since their funds are constantly ripped off. Woe betide this country when an independent news medium is closed down or knackered.
