Renewable energy market is huge
In Australia, 9500 GWhrs by 2010
In EU, aim is to double renewable energy use by 2012 and has set a target of 12% of total electricity generated. This is equivalent to 286 TWhrs; 30 times the Australian target.
Forecast investment to achieve these EU targets is EUR165 Billion, of which biomass is expected to achieve 50% market share
In USA, Texas has mandated 2000 MW additional renewable generation by 2009
In Malaysia, 21 year off-take contracts are offered to boost renewable generation by 700MW by 2005

Waste reduction market is also huge
REL is targeting:-
Forestry and wood wastes – bark, sawdust, chips, paper/pulp sludge
Agricultural wastes – animal manures (chicken, hog) and crop residues (rice hulls, palm oil fruit baskets, peanut shells)
Industrial wastes – biodegradable foodstuffs, DAF sludge
Sewage sludge

Together these wastes represent 65%
of total waste and all are biomass

For example:-
8 Billion chickens produced each year in USA, resulting in 8mtpa of litter
42mtpa of biomass produced in Germany each year, which could be used to produce 2800 MW of power generation
100 Million hogs produced in USA each year, mostly in eastern states
5 Million tonnes of palm oil empty fruit baskets left to rot in Malaysia each year
