    Probably not too many around who witnessed the ABC's best days in my opinion.
    That was in 1967 when they launched This Day Tonight, a half hour nightly current affairs program with Bill Peach as master of ceremonies and a collection of mostly new faces on the reporting team. The emphasis was on both in your face probing journalism and satire of the political times.
    Many later famous journalists earned their spurs on that program - Mike Carlton, Mike Willesee, Richard Carleton & many more.
    It's a shame we don't see something like that nowadays, where politicians wouldn't know whether to become aggressive or walk out or have a laugh at themselves.
