The coal research company Environmental Clean Technologies has confirmed it will apply for part of the $90 million on offer from the Victorian and Federal Governments for new coal technology.
The Federal Minister, Martin Ferguson, announced the funding in the Latrobe Valley on Friday.
The Federal Government withdrew $100 million from a stalled clean coal project by the energy company HRL the previous week.
The company says its coldry technology should qualify for the program.
The managing director, Mike Davies, says the company has the technology to dry brown coal into pellets to make it comparable to black coal.
He says design has started for a demonstration plant and a commercial plant to process about two million tonnes of coal a year.
