ABC slammed for suggesting chess is racist, page-53

Ah look, it was fair that the abc reporter asked the question, since this IS a current topic of debate. The point was testing the boundaries to see how far this trend really goes.

Regarding commercial products changing their product names, well, they own the business don't they? Free market at work.
Nobody here wants the government to start over-regulating what products can and can't be called, its already probably too far in that direction as it is. So, with the economic system that we have, its up to the OWNERS of the product lines to make their own choices about which names they decide they want to keep, and which they think will turn off some of their customers to the extent that they need to change it. Democracy. Free market capitalism. You may not like it, but nobody ever said the system was perfect.

But the over-reaction to this abc question by some is a little much. Chess isn't owned by anyone, its not going to be changed. Kasparov was right enough in his response and that such a prominent chess figure thinks that way is further evidence that the convention of which colour goes first will stay that way.

Chess has also been available in a variety of shapes and colours to suit the particular aesthetic sensibilities of chess board owners for centuries. Nobody is required to use black and white pieces, nor will they be required to use coloured pieces, dragons or even "The Simpsons" pieces for that matter.

Really, there's nothing much happening here at all folks!
