A recent ABC episode of 7.30 painted our elite SAS regiment in Perth as celebrating getting away with murder. The report was timed with the release of ABC journalist (I use the term advisedly) Mark Willacy's book, Rogue Forces.

Central to 7.30's claim is the SAS use a theme song by the James band, Getting Away With It as a nod and a wink to committing war crimes, with the tune being played at SAS social events and funerals. A story the ABC insists in the public's interest to bring to light.

However a quick perusal of the songs description on YouTube indicates the song deals with cheating death, the story of a man saving a woman from drowning:

"Getting Away with It (All Messed Up)" is a song by popular Indie band James. It became an unofficial theme tune to their final tour in 2001...The idea of surviving against the odds is an echo of James' career as a whole.

Of course the ABC trashed the SAS's sacred song by employing some crass selective editing, as is their wont, to only focus on the lyrics, Getting away with it, all messed up, that's the living. Check it out, lyrics supplied:

Are you aching for the blade? That's okayWe're insuredAre you aching for the grave? That's okayWe're insuredWe're getting away with itAll messed upGetting away with itAll messed upThat's the livingDaniel's saving GraceShe's out in deep waterHope he's a good swimmerDaniel plays his aceDeep inside his templeHe knows how to surf herWe're getting away with itAll messed upGetting away with itAll messed upThat's the livingDaniel drinks his weightDrinks like Richard BurtonDance like John Travolta, nowDaniel's saving GraceHe was all but drowningNow they live like dolphinsGetting away with itAll messed upGetting away with itAll messed upThat's the livingGetting away with itGetting away with itGetting away with itThat's the livingThat's the living
