don't forget china B’ville sets sights on China

THE Autonomous Bougainville Government is looking to China as its trading partner and the answer to the region’s economic recovery, says Vice President Joseph Watawi.
Mr Watawi, who left yesterday with a seven member delegation team to China, said the trip was an important step taken by the ABG after its inauguration three months ago.
This trip will be the first of its kind for the new government.
Te ABG had taken up the invitation from the Trade and Industry Department and the Chinese Government to participate in next week’s World Trade Fair in Beijing, China.
Mr Watawi was accompanied by two members of the provincial House of Representative and three others from the private sector, including Robert Atsir, Cletus Harepa and Laota Atoi.
The delegation will showcase Bougainville at the fair with some of the region’s finest products and samples in copra, cocoa, beche-der-mer and artefacts.
The region’s tourism industry will also be a discussion point as more tourism opportunities is marketed in Beijing.
Mr Watawi said this was a golden opportunity for the ABG to encourage trade and a partnership with one of the world’s super powers.
“We can’t sit back and wait for miracles to happen; we must go shopping and market Bougainville to countries like China. By doing that we will encourage investors into the region to take part in some of the region’s high impact projects that will certainly boost our economic recovery,” Mr Watawi said.
Mr Watawi, who is also the Minister for Trade and Industry in the ABG, said since the Papua New Guinea Government emphasised on the “Look North Policy”, it was timely of such a trip to discuss important issues of development in the region and establish some vital ties with China.
He said apart from other countries, China was best admired for its One China Policy which was a great example to other developing nations like PNG and Bougainville, adding China can be counted as one of the shining examples for trading and partnership..
