the govnuts stopped building public housing in the 1970's....all those ugly little boxes sitting on top of each other called housing units....or the ugly 3 bedroom fibro type houses.... so if you want the govnuts to provide you with their cheap housing, you will not find it.....unless you ar prepared to wait on average 10 years in Syd or Melb.....to live in those ghettos and slums....now simply rife with drugs and crime... truly it really is not something most of us aspire to, as our pereffered type of housing... unfortunately they put a load of immigrants and refugees in there years ago and they are now full....
so in order to encourage the private sector....thats the average mum and dead....to buy a house and put it out for rent...they gave the mums and dads, negative gearing....which in reality should only last max of 10 years....by which time the rents should overtake the mortgage costs...then its positively geared and you pay the taxes... so instead of the govnuts wasting your dollars to build public housing.....**** just remind yourselves of the BER, insulation and all the other rip offs recently..... it really is cheaper and more tax effective to allow negative gearing.... Keating tried to stop it in the 70's, or 80's....do you know what happened then.....guess.... there was suddenly a huge shortage of rental properties in the big smoke.....
maybe the goivnut should also stop the rental allowance....they pay to the poor, to encourage the poor out into private rental marrket....since there is no public housing left, or available...
I would rather the Devines and other builders, designing and providing low cost housing.....at least competitive and appealing to the eye.... compared to the ugly albatross housing style the govnuts built... most people, from whatever walks of life....prefer an attractive neighbourhood.....rather than the ugly slum type public housing, littered in around our cities....
