Plough has hit the nail on the head, and just about all early documentation will back this up. Elkin, Basedow, Gribble, Love, Lommel, Brendt, Strehlow etc all recognized the lower inteligence as this biggest hurdle for the aboriginal race as they tried to move forward into the twentieth century in a land where European influence was increasingly encroaching on their areas.

And there was no malice or racism in their findings. Purely an anthropological view from men who spent many many years with the aborigines in various areas all over Australia. In most cases these men were also humanitarians who gave up much of their lives to assist with the plight of the Australian Aboriginal.

Unfortunately most of their writings have long been removed from public view, or sanitized in new, revised versions. Some of the books have been banned altogether. I am extremely fortunate to have had a great grandfather who had a keen interest in the Australian Aboriginal, and left me an extensive range of old literature which makes fascinating reading. It opens your eyes to how political ideas and correctness can alter perception and even rewrite parts of our education systems curriculum.
