Farmers cant get enough for their produce from retailers to be able to afford to pay a wage that entices the lazy muppets off their backsides.

We are all a part of the problem.

We demand cheap product.

and

We directly or indirectly (via our super) demand that companies continuously grow and increase profitability.

We pay the exec of publically listed companies ridiculous salaries to drive revenue and profitability.

This results in retailers driving down the price they pay producers which results in producers having to reduce costs.

Backpackers don't get benefits, for the most part don't pay any income tax, and are only trying to fund their travels so are willing to work.
