years back I had some custom samarium cobalt arc magnets made for a special project ( which I never started) it's about 2.5KG of magnets cost me only around $220 odd .... now you get tiny cube magnets weighing maybe 10-15 grams for $3 !
rare earth and cobalt big bucks !
PS: Samarium is not that rare-earth but SMCO magnets do contain other rare earth in small quantities
